A True Friend

A friend is someone who knows you well and understands you. When necessary, a friend also extends a helping hand so as to tide you over a tough time.True friends are hard to come by and thus, when one has a friend, one should treasure her/him and nurture the relationship as far as possible.

The roles of a friend are many. One of them is to stick to u through thick and thin. Fair weather friends are not real friends and foul weather friends are not either. The former only stays around when everything is fine and good, while the latter only sticks with you when times are bad. Some might wonder why foul weather friends are not good friends since they are able to weather tough times with you. The reason is due to the fact that they are not really there to help; sticking around when you are down and out gives them a sense of power and well-being. A true friend will stand by your side throughout.

True friends do not necessarily provide solutions to all your problems. They might not be able to as well, since each and every one of us is restricted by our own unique circumstances. Instead, the true friend will always provide a listening ear. He hears you out and shares your burden ina most supportive way. If necessary, he might even lend you a shoulder to cry on.

Ultimately, a true friend can only do all these things because he empathises. He might not agree with you, but he can see things from the lenses that you put on.It is only through stepping inton your shoes that he can understand where you are coming from. Only then is he able to comprehend why you are reacting a certain way.

A friend who refuses to understand is hardly a true friend. Thus, a friend is someone who can walk in my shoes.
